Maternity Photo Tips
You do not need to be good at being photographed
Most women arrive with some version of the same worry.
What do I do with my hands?
How should I stand?
What if I feel awkward?
You do not need to know.
Making the photograph work is my job.
Choose the right time
For most pregnancies, I recommend being photographed between 30 and 35 weeks, when your bump is well defined but movement is usually still comfortable.
If you are expecting twins or multiples, we may photograph earlier.
Book ahead rather than waiting until then to get in touch.
Keep what you wear simple
Clothing should help us see you, not compete for attention.
Black and neutral clothing photograph particularly well in my studio. Avoid strong patterns, logos and anything that distracts from your face or the shape of your body.
You do not need to buy something new.

Bring the people who belong
You can be photographed alone.
Your partner, children and pets are also welcome.
Sometimes the portrait is entirely about the woman carrying the baby.
Sometimes it is about everyone who was waiting.
The people who were waiting too.
Stop worrying about posing
I will tell you where to stand, where to put your hands and make small adjustments as we work.
You are not expected to arrive knowing which angle photographs well or what to do when a camera is pointed at you.
That responsibility belongs on my side of the camera.
You can stop doing the photograph.
Give yourself time
Eat before you come. Bring water. Avoid rushing if you can.
If you need to sit down or pause during the session, we do.
Pregnancy is demanding enough.
Your portrait session doesn't need to be.
Choose what you want to keep
Before you leave, we will look through the photographs together.
You choose the portraits you want.
Not the ones you think you should choose.
The ones that matter to you.
Sometimes those are not the photographs you expected.
