Mother & Son Photographer Johannesburg
A portrait session for mothers and sons at every age
You do not need to know how to pose.
And your son does not need to love being photographed.
My job is to photograph the relationship between you as it is now.
That might be a mother with a small boy, a teenager who is becoming increasingly independent, an adult son standing beside his mother, or a mother with more than one son.
The session takes place in my Johannesburg studio, where I guide you throughout.
There is time to settle in.
There is time to make portraits together and separately.
And there is time for the small things that often become the photographs you keep — a hand, a look, the way he leans towards you, or the moment something makes you both laugh.
You simply need to arrive.
What happens in the studio
Before your session, we will talk about who is being photographed and what you would like from the portraits.
I will also help you with clothing and anything else you need to prepare.
During the session, I direct the posing, hands, body position and where to look. Neither of you is expected to know what to do in front of the camera.
Some mothers and sons talk throughout the session.
Some say very little.
Some laugh easily.
Others simply enjoy being together.
There is no right way to be together.
The photographs should feel like the two of you.
What to wear
Simple clothing photographs best in my studio.
Black is always a good choice against my black background. Neutral colours can work beautifully too.
You do not need to match. Clothing should work together without becoming the subject of the photograph.
Avoid large logos, strong patterns and fluorescent colours.
I will help you before the session, so you do not have to work this out alone.

One son, brothers and family
A Mother & Son session does not have to mean only two people.
You may come with more than one son, and we can photograph the different relationships as well as everyone together.
Mother & Son portraits can also form part of a wider family session.
If your son is grown and has a family of his own, we can still make a portrait of the two of you while everyone is together.
The relationship does not stop being worth photographing because he grew up.
