Maternity portraits before everything changes
Pregnancy is temporary.
Your body changes.
You wait.
You imagine someone you have not yet met.
And then they arrive.
My maternity sessions are photographed in my private Johannesburg studio, with time to settle and direction throughout.
You do not need to know how to pose.
You only need to arrive.
The maternity portrait experience
Every woman arrives differently.
Some love being pregnant.
Others find the changes to their body difficult.
Some come alone.
Others bring their partner, children or the family dog.
There is no right way to do this.
I will help you with what to wear, how to stand and where to put your hands. I will shape the light and make small adjustments as we work.
Nothing needs to be performed for the camera.
The portrait is built around you.
When to have your maternity portraits taken
For most pregnancies, I recommend being photographed between 30 and 35 weeks.
At this stage, the bump is usually well defined while movement is still comfortable.
If you are expecting multiples, we may photograph earlier.
It is worth booking ahead so that we have room to choose the best time for you.
Who can be included
Your maternity session can be entirely about you.
Or it can include your partner, children and pets.
Pregnancy changes a family before the baby has even arrived, and sometimes the portraits that matter most are the ones that show who was waiting too.

What to wear
Simple clothing photographs beautifully.
Black and neutral clothing work particularly well with the way I light, and fitted pieces can show the shape of the bump without competing with it.
I also have a small selection of maternity pieces and fabrics in the studio.
You do not need to buy a wardrobe for your photographs.
Before your session, I will help you decide what to bring and what will photograph well.

In the studio
My Blairgowrie studio is private.
There is no audience and no expectation that you should know what to do.
I have been photographing people for more than two decades. I will direct your body, hands and face throughout the session and adjust what I am doing according to you.
Some portraits may be close and simple. Others may use silhouette, fabric or stronger light.
You are never expected to reveal more of your body than you want to.
You decide how much of yourself you want to show.
Your session and collections
Your session fee is R3,000.
This reserves your session and covers preparation, photography and the presentation of your photographs.
Before your session, you choose one of three collections:
Foundation
10 finished portraits — R7,500
Total investment R10,500
Signature
15 finished portraits — R10,500
Total investment R13,500
Legacy
25 finished portraits — R15,500
Total investment R18,500
Your session fee and collection are paid before the session.
Prices include VAT.
Choosing your portraits
After your session, you choose the photographs you want to keep.
Each chosen portrait is individually finished and supplied as a high-resolution digital file.
Additional portraits may be added at R1,500 each.
If you would like both the colour and black-and-white version of a purchased portrait, the alternate version may be added for R1,000 per portrait.
Unedited or RAW files are not supplied.
You choose what deserves to remain.
Portraits to live with
Your photographs do not have to remain on a screen.
They can also be made as framed portraits, prints or albums — pieces you see as part of your home rather than files you have to remember to open.
