JOHANNESBURG NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY

As a professional Johannesburg newborn photographer, I capture newborns in my studio for those looking for an emotive and timeless style that includes the whole family.

If you have been searching for a newborn studio photographer and fell in love with how my images make you feel, you are my perfect client, and I would love to work with you.

Newborn Photo Gallery

Newborn Style

My newborn style is soulful and timeless. I don't follow trends. View my newborn portfolio to satisfy yourself that you will work with someone who photographs with sensitivity and authenticity.

Newborn Pricing

I charge a session fee to capture an incredible selection of photos. After your session, we view the pictures, and you buy the images you love. What you purchase is entirely up to you.

It is an incredible investment, a value-for-value exchange. Contact me for a quote.

Whichever photographer you choose, you'll spend money. Like any quality product or service, good photography is expensive because it is costly to create quality images. If you're unhappy, you may not have the budget or time to do a re-shoot with another photographer. It is less expensive to get it right the first time.

Newborn Photographer

I will be your photographer. If I can't take your photos, I will reschedule your session; I will never outsource. After all, you fell in love with my creative vision, demonstrated in my newborn gallery, and how it makes you feel.

Newborn Clients

You are my perfect newborn client if you are looking for:

Together, we can turn this occasion into incredible family art from my range of products.

Newborn Posing

My approach is to capture the intimate connection with your newborn through natural poses. This involves careful planning, gentle handling, and a keen eye for capturing spontaneous yet serene moments.

I will focus on your newborn-

  • in the length of your arms
  • over the shoulder
  • surrounded by family
  • wrapped in their special blanket
  • held by an older sibling or grandparent
  • focus on their feet and hands
  • loved by the family dog
  • close-ups of their face
  • and wider compositions showing the whole family

Knowing how to pose everyone is a skill, my superpower, so leave it to me to capture moments that remind you exactly how you felt.

Detail

I pay close attention to small details, such as hand positioning, eye contact and drool. Small adjustments make all the difference.

Lighting Style

I work mainly with one light to create different effects and moods; your portraits must stand out.

Retouching

Less is more. I strive to maintain natural beauty and individuality with subtle adjustments and enhancements. I'm mindful of the changes in your body during pregnancy and how they impact your confidence. My natural editing skills are another superpower worth the price, and I am known for shaving off unwanted kilograms: a value exchange.

Newborn Wardrobe

Deciding what to wear for your newborn photoshoot doesn't have to be overwhelming, but it does require planning - nothing worse than forgetting an essential item.

My studio offers a beautiful selection of materials for loosely draping and wrapping your newborn.

Below are some newborn wardrobe suggestions for a timeless and elegant look:

  • Au natural
  • White onesie, simple and clean
  • Knit romper, cosy and timeless
  • Knitted jersey and hat
  • Traditional clothing, family's cultural heritage
  • Blankets and swaddles - soft and textured
  • Neutral colours - beige, ivory, grey, and pastel
  • Wearing black clothing is my signature look for parents, siblings, and grandparents
  • Alternatively, please keep it simple and coordinated outfits for those joining the shoot
  • If you don't want your arms to show, cover them.

Hair

If your visit to the hairdresser is due, go a week before the shoot. This way, you will have time to get used to it, and the cut will grow slightly.

Hands and Nails

So often overlooked, trim everyone's nails as they become the second act. If you colour your fingernails, choose a neutral or clear tone.

Make-Up

I recommend natural make-up over complete makeovers. I can suggest a professional make-up artist for an additional fee.

Scheduling

Plan your newborn photo session two to three weeks in advance. I recommend an infant photo shoot between five days and three weeks, but I would happily work with you if this timing doesn't work.

Bonus

My standards are high. I am thrilled to be among only two photographers in Africa to have been awarded a Master's in portrait photography, plus many newborn awards from The Portrait Masters. Let's capture world-class photos of the extraordinary life you have brought into the world.

There are few certainties in life, but if you come into my studio, I will capture the most incredible photos you have ever seen of your newborn, giving me enormous pleasure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to my most frequently asked questions as a professional Johannesburg newborn photographer.

I charge two fees: a session fee and an image fee.
Contact me for more details.
My session fee includes your pre-shoot consultation, time, equipment, overflowing creative juices, and enthusiasm for creating an incredible selection of images from which to choose.
The image fee includes your selected image edited in high- and low-resolution JPEG files in colour and black and white and delivered via a WeTransfer link. Plus a 5x7" print per image.
The days of getting 40 average images on a DVD you lose before printing one are over.

It is best to have a handful of beautifully edited world-class portraits from an incredible selection to make enlarged framed prints or a custom photo album that becomes part of your family legacy.

Because I sell my images individually, I'm highly motivated to work harder than most. It's a value-for-value exchange.
I require full payment to secure your session.
I require full payment to edit your selected images.
I accept EFTs.
  • Ensure you coordinate the outfits of those joining the shoot.
  • I typically recommend black clothes as your newborn is the show's star.
No. How much skin you choose to reveal is entirely up to you.
Absolutely. I encourage family pets to be part of this memorable experience.
No, because I can pose you to flatter your body and remove a kilogram or two in editing if you wish—both are my superpowers.
Trust me to guide and direct you throughout - it's another one of my superpowers - so you feel comfortable, empowered and beautiful.

I pay closer attention to small details like where your hair falls, your garment flow, and the positioning of your hands - small details can ruin an otherwise great photo.
Absolutely. In our pre-shoot consultation, we will discuss examples that you love. I will ask you to send me examples of your vision so I can make it a reality.
Read my client reviews and be assured being made to feel comfortable is another one of my superpowers.
If I can't take your photos, I will reschedule your session. I will be your photographer - never outsourced. After all, you fell in love with my unique creative vision captured through my lens.

My studio has an inverter to take care of blackouts.
Time permitting, we will go through your shoot immediately or arrange a convenient time for you to come back to view them. I will guide you in selecting the very best. There are no hard sells.
Yes. I will edit your images. It is another one of my superpowers.
I focus on a natural look—less is more.
You have four weeks to finalise your order before it is archived.

I recommend all decision-makers are at the viewing of your shoot.
Your images are priceless. Storage is expensive. My responsibility is massive. I charge R2 500 to retrieve your shoot from the archive.
It typically takes up to ten days to edit portraits.
My studio offers designer photography products, including fine art prints, custom framing, photo albums, portfolio boxes, and gift vouchers.
It typically takes three to six weeks, depending on the product ordered.
I have been a portrait photographer since 2005, honed my craft and am confident you will work with a true industry professional.
I have an international Master's in portrait photography, one of only two in Africa, from The Portrait Masters and have garnered multiple portrait awards from my industry peers.

I also have a degree in the humanities from Wits University.
EXPERIENCE
I have been a dedicated portrait photographer since 2005. My genuine interest in people's emotions, understanding of the power of photos to tell a story, and sharp eye make me a natural portrait photographer.

PRICE
My pricing is simple and a value-for-value exchange. As a newborn photographer, getting it right the first time is essential - you may give birth straight after your shoot.

REPUTATION
My reputation is on the line every time I photograph people. Since every aspect of customer service is a matter of public record online, I am highly motivated to do an incredible job and capture the best photo you have ever seen of yourself. Here is a quick link to my reviews and compliments, also available with a Google search.

QUALITY
I work from my dedicated studio and use professional equipment. My photos are properly exposed, sharp, and well-framed. My newborn portfolio is extensive and speaks for itself.

STYLE
My unique style is contemporary and clean. It has remained the same since 2005. It is never trendy and will provide a return on your investment for years.
Good portrait photography is an investment. Like any quality product or service, running a professional photography studio that produces high-quality images is not cheap. Cameras, lighting, studio, and computer equipment are expensive. Software to edit and process files, plus archiving, is paid monthly in US dollars. And the never-ending challenge of your computer being too old for firmware updates.

Lousy photography is even more expensive. If you don't like your photos, you will have wasted your money; if a re-shoot is possible, you will have to spend more. It is better to get it right the first time.

Feel free to contact me via email or call +27828814044.

I will gladly answer any questions to help you make an informed decision you won't regret.

Fantastic. Contact me.

Let's secure your session date and set up a pre-shoot telephonic consultation.
