JOHANNESBURG MODEL PHOTOGRAPHER
As a Johannesburg model photographer, I capture aspiring models in my professional Johannesburg studio for models looking for modelling portfolio photos with a distinctive style.
Aspiring models need an online portfolio, so a high-quality photo showcasing their talents must be included in the first meeting with an agency or scout.

Posing
These are the nine essential photos for a modelling portfolio:
- Clean headshot
- Full-length body shot
- Swimsuit shot
- Creative shot
- Emotive shot
- Black and white shot
- Smiling shot

- Closing shot
I pay close attention to the seven posing rules - chin, shoulders, hands, hourglass, body language, asymmetry and connection.

Expression
Models need photos with a friendly smile, vibrant look, and moody expression; I will capture that of you; it is my superpower.
You will leave knowing I work hard at achieving these expressions, with plenty of laughter thrown in.
Retouching
Less is more. I specialise in the most comprehensive and detailed editing but focus on a natural retouching method.
Cropping
A headshot is strictly a head-and-shoulders portrait. I like to shoot a more flexible three-quarter image—a 4:6 ratio—which allows for cropping flexibility.
Applications
I produce eye-catching portrait Z-cards for acting and modelling applications.
Online Platforms
In today's business world, much of our networking is online.
Your headshots will be prepared for social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, WeChat, WhatsApp, YouTube, and Tinder.
My Style
Choosing a model portfolio-building photographer whose style resonates with you is crucial. My style is simple—not overpowered with props or unnatural posing—and never trendy.
Your Photographer
If you've fallen in love with my work, it's because you love how it makes you feel.
I never outsource to another. If I can't take your photos, I will reschedule your session.
If you choose a professional photographer with a gallery of consistent quality model images, makes me the perfect choice.
What to wear
Keep clothing simple and in good taste.
A simple pair of well-fitted jeans and a T-shirt are great.
Agents and scouts look at you and your body proportions, not your clothing.
Bring your wardrobe on hangers to prevent it from getting creased - don't wear it.
You can do as many wardrobe changes as you like - time permitting.
Hair
Keep hairstyles simple.
If you have long hair, then take photos of your hair down and pull it back.
Agents and scouts want to see the length and condition of your hair, so it's important to keep your hairstyle simple and well-groomed.
Hands & Nails
So often overlooked, ensure you trim your nails. If you colour your fingernails, choose a neutral or clear tone.
Professional Makeup
Keep makeup to a minimum.
Think of your face as a template. A little foundation, concealer, blush, mascara and lip gloss are all you need.
Male models generally should not wear makeup.
If your face gets oily, wearing translucent powder to remove any sheen is okay.
Backgrounds
I want your photos to stand out from the average model portfolio photos.
I use a simple one-light setup on black backgrounds, silhouette images, and high-key lighting for white backgrounds.
Bonus
My standards are high - let me capture an award-winning portrait of you for your modelling portfolio.
I am thrilled to be among only two photographers in Africa awarded a Master's portrait accreditation from the Portrait Masters.
How To Book Me

I want to meet your expectations, so I will ask you to send me examples you like.
3. SESSION
Even if it is your first time in front of the camera, and you don't know how to pose, I will direct and guide you - that is my superpower. My goal is to ensure you look connected and relaxed. Together, we will go through your images after your session. I will guide you in selecting the very best. You purchase the photos you love. What you buy is entirely up to you.
