Although we had a mild winter in Johannesburg this year, I so looked forward to some slightly warmer weather and Patey and Le Roux’s wedding at Flamingo Bay in Inhambane, Mozambique, was the perfect escape.
The 6:00 am shoot call was a bit rough on the partying groom, but I knew he would be so grateful in time to having those rolled up trousers shots with Patey, frolicking on the beach as the easterly sun rose in the distance.
Patey’s wedding dress was a labour of love. A number of friends had painstakingly crochet the doilies which was finally put together by her best friend. I was so moved by the symbolism of all of this and so too were her parent’s, especially her father, when he first struck his eyes on her.
The tied was out during the pre wedding photos. We all sank into the soft sand of the bay. It was fascinating to all of us.
With the raw emotion of the wedding, encroaching waters as high tide marched towards the Flamingo Bay deck, the group of close family and friends and the soft drizzling rain at the end of the evening, to the shouts of celebratory sparkles, it made the occassion so memorable for everyone.
The travelling was well worth it and an experience few will forget.
