Not sure why I’m always blessed with misty weather when covering sport events in one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa – the Discovery World Triathlon Series 2015 was no exception.
Without the The Cape Wheel being lit up ‘til well past 7am the event could have been held anywhere.
the swim leg was cancelled on day one due to water temperatures of 8 degrees which meant the cycle leg was the highly anticipated start to this event.
Having never covered a cycle race before I nearly got taken out on Beach Road, but I’m certain that Mouille Point presence was protecting me and I got the shot!
But it was the guts and determination of the parathletes that left many spectators emotional after they finished the swim and fought through the cold to start their cycle leg followed by a run.
Well done to Dylan da Silva, Stan Andrews, Hein Wagner, Nico Nel, Irish Matcheke and Oswald Kydd! There weren’t many dry eyes in the crowds watching you show us what living is really about.
The Cape Town Olympic Stadium made for dramatic final images as the athletes of all shapes and sizes came over the finish line.
